Formed in 2005 by experienced local musicians Dáithí Ó Geanainn and Ian Enright, “Gone to theDogs” seek to fuse contemporary and traditional Irish and British Acoustic Roots and to present tunes and songs with the originality, blood and guts they deserve!
Dáithí has been playing whistle for thirty years and a part of local sessions for longer than he cares to remember. He is an accomplished player and cites his major influences as The Bothy Band and the Chieftains. He is a proficient Irish language speaker and is developing a penchant for jazz whistle!
Ian has been playing guitar for over twenty five years and singing for as long as he can remember. He refers to his style as “agricultural chic” and cites his major influences as Christy Moore, The Pogues, Eric Bogle and Dick Gaughan.
Gone to the Dogs have played various open stages and gigs in 2005/2006 and are keen to share the music with as many people as possible. They regard it as British and Celtic soul and have been well received locally.
This is music for the pub, art centre, festival and acoustic roots club - delivered with passion, sensitivity and good natured banter. Most of all however, it is music to be enjoyed for what it is; rhythmic, infectious, home grown and immediately accessible. Crafted tunes and song-stories to entertain and satisfy. Both players obviously enjoy what the other brings to the duo and are establishing themselves locally as skilled and entertaining practitioners of their craft.
